Gandalf
My beloved dog of nearly ten years died on December 4. He likely had cancer and was battling a fever for too long. I couldn't stand to watch him suffer any longer so I had him put down. What an awful experience.
Gandalf was my companion for the decade; he brought me so much joy and comfort. He will always be my "first" dog, the one I kept. Lord knows he could misbehave, and his battles with other dogs is legendary, but Gandalf was wonderful with people and good to me.
Always willing to put on a costume for me:
He Loved to play with this ballast stone from the West 12th Street. I never did weigh it, but it is at least twice as clunky and heavy as a normal brick. Up and down West 4th he would push it with his nose and drag it with his paws. We always got a crowd. What a character!
